I took the road bike out for a time trial up to the La Luz Trailhead. I didn't beat my fastest time for this year, but I came close to it, and I felt fairly strong doing it. I zipped back down to the bottom, and made a second climb up to the trailhead, this time trying to stay out of the saddle for as much as I could. I made it more than halfway up before I had to rest for a little bit, and then I stood up again for most of the rest of the climb. That's good exercise to try and make my legs stronger. On the second time up a guy passed me like I was standing still, but that just serves to motivate me to get faster.

Professional bike race Team Astana is in town doing some high altitude training. Levi Leipheimer was on the news being interviewed, and he mentioned that they had ridden up to the La Luz Trailhead, and that it was a steep climb. It doesn't seem that steep to me, but maybe that's because I am more of a mountain bike rider, rather that road biker. Of course, Levi and the rest of the team can get to the top a lot quicker than I can. I saw the Astana team last Sunday, riding up to Oak Flat on South 337. They had a two car sheriff's escort with them, keeping traffic away. It must be nice.

As I was making the second climb up the hill, a small roadrunner ran out in front of my bicycle. If he was a little bit slower, he would have found himself underneath my front wheel.

The day was very sunny, with temps getting into the upper 40s. It's starting to feel like springtime is just around the corner.
