I took my mountain bike to work with me, because I wanted to do an interval type ride after work, and prepare myself for the race this weekend. I prepared myself, but not in the way that I had intended.
I drove over to the trailhead at "Hard as Hell Hill," which is near the Four Hills neighborhood. I started down a very steep rocky section that leads to the creek, and I didn't quite make it. Near the bottom, I biffed it bad, went over the bars, and crashed on some rocks. I cut up the whole left side of my body. I drew blood from my face, hand, arm, chest, and leg. Ouch!
I tried to continue the ride, but it was very difficult. My right bar end was loose, and I tried to tighten it, but without success. I really need it tight on that ride, because of all of the short steep climbs that it has. If I can't pull against the bar ends, it's hard to keep traction on the rear wheel.
I gave it a good effort, but it just wasn't worth it.
I forgot my speedometer, so the 6 miles is an estimate. I rode through the first half of this ride, but then I couldn't find my way up to the top of "Boulder Top Mountain." Eventually I gave up, and rode back to the car.
I attempted to get the bar end tightened at the house, but it was hopeless. On close examination it was apparent that I had crushed the end of the handlebar. In a way this was fortuitous, because the only things I liked more about my old bike than the new, were the handlebars and bar ends. I swapped ou the parts, and now I'm ready for the race. Ya, sure I am.....
