Finally -- I'm back on the bike.

It's been 43 days since my last ride, which is way too long. I've got to get up to the crest in March and I might not be able to make it if I get into any worse shape than I already am. It felt awkward on the bike at first, but then it all started to come back to me. I rode up to the La Luz trailhead on the road bike, and took it very slow, trying not to work up a sweat. I hit 43 mph on that first downhill section, and then eased off a little because I came up behind a car.

I didn't feel like passing the car and that's a good thing because all of a sudden I heard a little "Pop -- Pffffft" and a few drops of liquid came flying up from the front tire. I knew that the tire was punctured and all I could hope for was that the slime would take care of the situation. A couple more drops, and a few more "Pfffffts" and the leak seemed to be sealed. I stopped to feel for the pressure and everything checked out okay. I was glad for that because I didn't want my first ride in 43 days to be interrupted by having to change out a tube.

The rest of the ride back to the house was uneventful, and I managed to work up a tiny bit of sweat. It's a start!

The afternoon was wonderful with sunny skies and temps in the low 70s.
