I hooked up with Don and his friend Larry for an early morning ride. We met Larry at Tramway and Live Oak at 7:00 a.m. and then we headed towards the casino. That is a fun cruise down Tramway and it seems like it's been a long time since I last did that. We rode under the Freeway and then turned north to head toward Bernalillo. Right where Tramway and Fourth Street and the road to Bernalillo come together there is a brand new traffic circle. That's an excellent place for a traffic circle but until people get used to it there are going to be problems.
Larry turned around and headed back by the Sandia Lakes, and Don and I continued a few more miles. I felt really out of shape. Normally, I'd ride all the way to Bernalillo but I just didn't have it this time. On the way back to Tramway we spotted a turtle in the middle of the road. I stopped to help him as a car was going by and one of the tires actually brushed the turtle and pushed him a little bit. That's about as close as you can get to being squished without actually being squished. It seemed weird to be seeing a turtle in the middle of a desert but the little trout lakes are nearby so that's where he came from.
We rode back around the traffic circle, passed the casino and then began the climb up Tramway. Don spun away from me easily and left me in the dust. If I ever want to hang with him again I'll have to do some serious training. He came back around near Tierra Monte and we rode up to the County Line Restaurant where we parted ways. He was going to ride up to the tram and I was headed back to the house.
I really need to get out and ride more.
