Back to leaving the house at the crack of dawn. Today it was about 25 degrees when I left home. That's a lot warmer than the 15 degrees that it was on Monday but it still qualifies as cold. My hands were numb by the time I got down to the ranger station. I left the house a little bit later than the other day because now I'm getting a better sense of how long it takes me to get down the mountain. So far it's been a little over 30 minutes. I'd like to get that time down to under 30 minutes and get the climb back up to be less than an hour. I should be able to acheive both goals if I can keep up this effort. Today, my climb back up was about 1:09. Not bad, especially considering that I'm carrying a backpack that weighs about 20 pounds or so.
One thing that may have helped me was the wind. It was a strong headwind when I started out near the bottom, but it seemed to change and became a tailwind as I started to gain elevation up the mountain. That was kind of nice. Temps were in the 60s when I began the climb and they were still in the 50s as I neared my neighborhood.
It was a nice day for a ride.
