I left the house at about 8:00 a.m. and the temperature was 42 degrees, which was reasonably warm. I had leg warmers on but long underwear was not necessary. We are having a very warm March.

I rode down the hill to old 66 and then headed through Cedar Crest. I didn't stop at my usual break spot, but I didn't make it much further before fatigue started to set in. I stopped at the curve just past Doc Long and ate a couple handfuls of trail mix. I continued climbing and I stopped again at Capulin and finished of the rest of the trail mix. It was nice and warm sitting on the pavement and I took my jacket off for a little while and let my shirt and jacket dry out a bit. I now had enough energy to finish the ride and up I went. The temperature dropped into the 30s and with the breeze added I was feeling the cold. It wasn't too bad when the wind was behind me but the headwinds were a drag. I took a short break at the top where the temp was 37 degrees, and I also took this picture while I was there.

The ride down was cold at the beginning but it warmed up as I descended. On the way down I passed another rider who was on the way up. He was climbing out of the saddle and charging toward the top. He had a lot more strength than I did. Once I reached the bottom I stopped for water at the gas station and ate a Twix Bar before heading for home.

I got to 337 and started the climb up to Raven Road. I could tell that I was tired because all I could do was slowly turn the pedals and crawl my way up the mountain. I'm hoping that having commuting rides during the week will make these monthly excursions easier to take.
