Sofie and I headed over to Mars Court to go for another bike ride. We've been taking Raven Road to get there but this time we went on Milky Way because I thought that there would be less of a chance of a car coming on that street. That's probably true but there is more of a chance of dogs being loose and there were two of them loose in a lady's front yard. They started to come out into the street after us but I yelled, "No!" at them and they stayed in their yard. It also made Sofie stop where she was. The lady said that the dogs only wanted to play but they were big dogs and they seemed scary to me.
We made it out to Mars Court and then took the singletrack that we took the other day and then another off of that one that made for a bigger loop. The second singletrack has some technical sections that have switchbacks and rocks and I got off of the bike several times to walk. I'm not very confident of my mountain biking skills so I'd rather be safe than sorry. Even with that I fell off of the bike a couple of times and both times Sofie ran out in front of me as if to say, "Come on, what are you waiting for?" Mostly though, she stays right behind my wheel.
The return loop from the singletrack came back through the fire break area. It's starting to grow back. I meant to take the fire road back to the trailhead but somehow we got on to the singletrack that we went out on and we returned that way. When we got back to the parking area there was a forest ranger guy there that Sofie said hi to, and then we headed back to the house.
I offered Sofie a drink of water several times during the ride but she didn't seem interested. Maybe she just didn't want me to squirt her with the tube of my camelback. I think I'll bring her folding dish next time and see if she will drink from that. When we did finally make it back to the house she drank a lot from her bowl on the back deck. This was the longest trip of her life. She's such a good dog.
