Streak Ride #91 is complete. I'm closing in on #100.
I decided to do this ride early in the month and get it over with before there was any chance of fire restrictions being put in place that would shut down the forest. Also, monsoon rains are supposed to begin any day now, and I do hate riding in the rain.
I left the house a little bit after 8:00 in the morning. The temperatures were already warm enough that I didn't need a jacket, even for the long downhill to the freeway. I made my way through Cedar Crest, took my usual break at the Y and then started up the big climb. There wasn't much automobile traffic on the road and there were even fewer bicycle riders. It was a very peaceful climb.
I stopped at Capulin for a few minutes of rest and then I headed out to finish up the climb. I didn't notice that my bike computer wasn't working. I happened to look down and see that my speed was zero. I pressed a button and it started working but I had already lost about a mile of the ride. I'm not sure what was wrong except that maybe the batteries are getting old. I continued on up to the top and checked the thermometer on the door for the current temperature. It was 65 degrees. That's very comfortable.
I didn't stop for very long at the top. I had finished all of my water so my next stop was the gas station at the bottom of the mountain for a refill. I had a candy bar while I was there and then I headed for home. I skipped the stop at Pinkies this month and just kept on pedalling. Temps were in the 90s for the ride back to the house. It felt good.
