Sofie and I went back out to Mars Court and rode the Turkey Trot trail to David Canyon and then continued up the trail attempting to make the difficult climb up to the ridge. I made it pretty far but I know I can do better. I may start practicing that.

We took a short break at the top of the climb and then continued down the backside. When the trail veered left to follow the edge of the air force base, we veered right and came to road 106. That's the road that was built to make the fire break so we followed that to see where it would come out. It climbed up a steep little hill that we walked up and then it followed the fire break for a mile or so until it met up with the road from David Canyon.

I think that I have figured out where most of the trails are going in the southern area of the forest that is nearest to Mars Court. Now I think that I will start to work my way north towards Otero Canyon and see how things have changed in the direction.

Sofie and I headed up David Canyon and we were going to take the long way back up to Mars Court when we heard the unmistakable rumble of thunder. I looked up and right in front of us was big, dark, scary cloud and we were riding directly into it. I gave Sofie a quick drink of water and then we turned around and headed for the exit at full speed ahead. We made it to the parking lot before it started raining, but just as we parked the car in the driveway at the house the rain began and a torrential downpour ensued. I'm so glad we turned around when we did.
