It was Memorial Day weekend and the ski area opened up to run the chairlift for the tourists and the mountain bikers. I think that mountain biking is starting to catch on because it seemed like there were a lot more people with bikes this year when compared to last year. That's good to see.
The first two days of the weekend were very warm, requiring only shorts and a t-shirt. The last day was a bit chilly. I wore my arm warmers and leg warmers all day, and my jacket most of the day. We were considerably less busy on Monday when compared to the other two days.
At the end of the day it was my job to help sweep the trails. I did Golden Eagle twice and King of the Mountain once. The rides were pleasant and uneventful. I didn't see any animals but there were reports that a bear was seen wandering around on a Saturday.
As I was about to start one of the rides a guy asked me if I had any medical training. I told him no, but that I had a radio and I could call for help if somebody needed anything.
All in all, it was a good start to the season and everyone had a good time. Hopefully, we will be able to remain open. The word is that if we don't get any rain we will be shutting down on June 10. That would be a bummer.
