It's been a few weeks since Sofie and I have been out for ride and we were long overdue. I decided to keep it short and ease her back into chasing the bicycle, gently. The weather is starting to warm up. Temps were in the low 80s and Sofie was going to be working hard.
We drove over to Oak Flat and parked and started our ride from there. We headed into the Albuquerque Open Space and made a loop around the trail in the clockwise direction. We stopped after the long downhill and took a water break and I let Sofie catch her breath. We continued around the loop and then took the trail on the backside to return to Oak Flat.
As we were climbing up that trail I saw a coyote and I stopped to let it move away. After a few seconds Sofie saw the coyote and started to chase after it. I told her, "No!" and she stopped. I gave the coyote a minute to leave the area and then we started up again. Sofie again started to chase after the coyote and another "No!" stopped her again. I hope she understands the concept that chasing coyotes is not a good idea.
We saw a little horned toad as we climbed up to Oak Flat. There used to be a bullet-riddled carcass of a car up there but it has been removed. I kind of enjoyed it and I'm a little sad to see it go.
