The forest has dried out and it's time for Sofie and I to get back out there and enjoy it.
We left from the house and rode over to Mars Court. The Forest Service has started another fuel reduction project and Turkey Trot trail is closed again. I wanted to go out there anyway, but there was a guy trimming brush right by the parking lot and he wouldn't let us go down the trail. We went down the road and then to Cajun Turkey trail. From there we looped around and got on the road to take us up to the ridge. As we started up the road we saw two guys hiking with a dog that looked like Border Collie or Australian Shepherd. One of the guys said something to the dog and he sat down right where he was and waited for us to get closer. The two dogs sniffed each other a little bit and then we went our separate ways. As we went up the road we could see that the tree cutting crews have been very busy. There are trees cut down for as far as you can see.
We rode over to the Turkey Trot trail that's on the west side of David Canyon and took that trail back down into the canyon. As we headed back toward the road that goes back up to the trailhead we saw a continuation of the tree cutting. A lot more of the geography of the land is visible now that all of the trees have been cut. It's a little bit sad but it is necessary to try to help protect our neighborhood.
As we headed back up to the parking lot we passed a tree cutting crew that was packing it up for the day. A short distance after that we saw three people hiking with three pit bulls, and all of the dogs were off the leash. When the people saw us they put leashes on the dogs, and I got my knife ready, just in case. Thankfully, we passed without incident and there were no issues.
Sofie and I need to get out more and play. We have been doing some hiking so at least we are doing something, even if it isn't always bike riding.
