I was ready to go at 8:00 a.m., but the flat tire on my bike said otherwise. I took my time changing it and finally left the house at 8:30. A big benefit to leaving later is that it is substantially warmer. It was 35 degrees when I left the house and when I reached the other side of the freeway it was probably near 50. It was so warm that I put on my half-fingered gloves and rode to the break spot at the Y quite comfortably. Warmer gloves did go back on after my break.
I started the climb by taking things slowly and I tried not to work up too much of a sweat. To make up a little time I skipped my usual break at Capulin and, instead, took short rests on the bike and lots of stops to pee. I eventually made it to the top where I took a short break and then headed down. It was 39 degrees at the top which seemed very warm for the first week of February. The descent started out chilly but I was dressed for it and it warmed up quickly as I descended. By the time I reached the bottom it was in the low 60s! Nice! There are some hidden benefits to global warming.
I went in the gas station just long enough to fill up on water and then I was back on the road and headed for home. I put my half-fingered gloves back on and enjoyed the spring-like pedaling back up 337.
I pulled in to the house a little bit later than usual because of my late start, but I have the February, Streak Ride out of the way early. That feels good.
