Sofie and I had everything together to go for a ride this afternoon, but just as we were leaving the house lightning and thunder filled the sky. I looked up at the clouds in the front yard and they were big and dark and scary. I went back in the house and looked at the sky in the backyard and there was nothing but blue sky. The edge of the storm was directly above our house. If the storm stayed where it was we could go for our bike ride, no problem. We would be to the west of the clouds. However, I wasn't willing to bet that it wouldn't move in that direction so we decided to try and wait out the storm. As it turned out, we could have gone, but waiting worked out just as well.
I decided that I would charge up my headlight and that way, nothing could stop us from hitting the trail. Well, rain could, but that wasn't going to happen. At about 7:30 p.m. I decided the time was right and a few minutes later we were headed for Mars Court.
We took Wild Turkey from the trailhead and then got on Cajun Pine. I switched on my headlight and Sofie's flashing collar when we crossed the road, and we took a short break at the start of Southern Crossing. We rode on Southern Crossing all the way to the highway and we stopped for another break. While we were sitting there Sofie started barking at something on the trail. I shined my light up the trail but I didn't see anything. A minute later I heard a voice asking me to turn away the light. Some guy was out later than he thought he was going to be and he was having to walk back to his car because he didn't have a light. I told him that the dog was friendly and he went on his way. He was probably parked at Oak Flat or Deadman.
After a few more minutes Sofie and I were headed back the way we came. Somewhere on the ride out I lost my bike computer. I looked for it on the way back but I didn't see it. I'm not sorry that it's lost because it was a piece of crap. It was constantly coming loose and falling off. I won't miss it. I'll take a spare off of my Cannondale bike.
The wind picked up a little bit a few times on this ride and it made it feel a little cool, but all in all it was a beautiful evening with temps in the low 70s to upper 60s.
