Sofie and I rode over to Mars Court and then we went down Turkey Trot. I offered her water at the trailhead which she didn't want, but she was thirsty when we got down into David Canyon. I gave her a couple extra minutes of rest and then we began the climb up to the ridge. Now it was my turn to suffer. The climb up the west side of the canyon seems rockier than ever and more difficult than ever. I have a lot of work to do before I'll be able to clear most of that climb.
We stopped on the way up the trail to take a picture of this magnificant alligator juniper tree. It's probably 300 years old. Beautiful!
We continued up to the ridge and then onto More Turkey. At the bottom of More Turkey at the gate to the air force base, we stopped for another break. It was a warm day with temps in the 80s, and Sofie was working hard on the downhills.
After our break we started heading back toward the trailhead. We went up the road to the ridge and then back down into David Canyon. I had planned on taking one more break at the pond but when we got within sight of it I saw a guy trying to hold onto his two big dogs. He had one in each hand and he was struggling to hang on. We were at least a 100 yards away and if his dogs wanted to come at us from that far away I didn't want to have anything to do with them. We turned up Wild Turkey and skipped the break at the pond.
I did offer Sofie some more water when we got to the parking lot but she only drank a little bit. She was waiting to get back to the house to take a really big drink.
