Sofie and I headed for Mars Court a little before 2:00 in the afternoon. Temps were in the upper 50s and it was windy at times, which made it feel a bit cool. I had on my bike shorts but also my windbreaker.
We went over to Mars Court and then headed for the west ridge of David Canyon. We stopped at the bottom of the road for a short break and Sofie drank some water. We continued up to the ridge and when we got up there we could see that wide areas had been freshly masticated. We came around a curve and alongside of the road was the masticator itself. That thing is a monster! Here is a picture of what the forest looks like after it has been masticated. That will go a long way toward reducing the fire danger.
We turned onto More Turkey trail and took it to West Boundary and eventually came out on 106. We went up Three Bottles and then headed back to the trailhead. We had a couple more water breaks along the way so Sofie could rest a little bit.
We saw a horned toad on Cajun Pine as we were on our way back. He was scurrying off of the trail to avoid the bike tires. Smart toad.
