I haven't been riding much lately, and I really miss it. I need to make a promise to myself to get out and do more riding.

I decided to leave Sofie at home and just go for a ride that didn't require frequent breaks. I love that dog dearly, but she does put some limitations on a bike ride that I'd like to avoid.

I rode over to Mars Court and then took the most direct route to Otero Canyon. I went straight down the road to David Canyon and then took it over to Drop In. That led to 106 which took me to Blue Ribbon. Blue Ribbon is really rocky and I wanted to find out how the bike felt making the long descent down to Otero. It felt pretty good. Going downhill is not my best skill so it was nice to be on a bike that did a decent job of soaking up the bumps.

I made it down to Otero and then turned into the canyon and began that climb up towards the air force base. A motorcycle was coming down the canyon as I was going up. He was the only person that I saw on the entire ride. I climbed up to Gnasty with a G and the trail had some steeper sections and the difficulty increased greatly. I was working hard trying to stay on the bike as I climbed but one spot almost got me. I failed to clear a little rise and I started to fall off of the trail. Luckily, there was a tree right in front of me and I grabbed onto it with one hand and it saved me from a nasty fall. At least I would have been prepared, this time. After my last fiasco with my crash at Tunnel Canyon I went out and bought some G-Form elbow pads. I'm not in a big hurry to find out how well they work.

I had to catch my breath in a couple of places but eventually I made it back up to Blue Ribbon. From there I headed back to Mars Court and home. It was a beautiful, sunny day with temps in the upper 50s.
