I headed out a little bit after 8:00 a.m. Temps were in the low 40s but the sun was out and it would warm up quickly. I took my medium gloves and headband off after I crossed I40 and reached the sidewalk, and it was half-fingered gloves for the rest of the day.

I took a fairly long break at the Y and then I started the long climb to the top. Just before the ski area I started to get a cramp in my right quad but I drank down a bunch of water and my energy drink and I managed to chase it away. I took another fairly long break at Capulin and then I was heading for the top.

There is very little snow on the mountain which may mean we're going to have a dry summer, but right now everything is looking very green.

I only stopped at the top long enough to check the temperature which was 51 degrees and then I headed down the mountain. A guy and a gal passed me on the way up and there were about 10 or so people who were making the climb as I was descending. There were some bugs out for the ride down and I was forced to keep my mouth closed or I would have eaten a few. Some of them stung a little bit as they hit me in the face at 35 mph.

I stopped at the gas station to fill up on water and I was sitting outside eating a candy bar when young Josh pulled up. We talked for a few minutes and then he took off in his truck and I took off on my bike.

On the way back I stopped at a little pull out for a couple of minutes and I saw a little baby bunny. It made me look down the embankment and I noticed that the ground was an old abandoned parking lot that was full of trees that were growing out of it. There was also a giant culvert under the highway that looked like it was capable of turning that parking lot into a lake. Maybe that's why it's been abandoned.

The climb back up 337 to Raven road went smoothly and it felt good getting back to the house. Another nice thing about today was very little wind. All in all -- quite excellent!
