I headed out around lunchtime in the heat of the day, which wasn't too bad, in the upper 80s. I was headed for the east side of the highway to explore the continuation of Poker Chip trail and come back on Bear Scat trail. I don't have a lot of familiarity with the trails that are north of Juan Tomas and I have been feeling the itch to ride new dirt.

I headed out to Mars Court and then over to Southern Crossing to get to the other side of the highway. Early on I noticed that I had forgotten to put on my elbow pads. All I could do was be extra careful and hope that I didn't have to spill any blood because of that mistake. Fortunately, I did not crash. Hurray!

I turned off of Southern Crossing onto Deadman and rode down to Pine Flat. I cut over on Gambel Oak to Poker Chip and took it all the way to the end at Bear Scat. I can't remember riding that section of Poker Chip before. I had to walk a little bit but it wasn't too bad. I turned onto Bear Scat and headed south. Bear Scat changes its name to Mahogany when it crosses back over Juan Tomas and I took Mahogany up to Oak Flat. From there I took Easy Pickens back to the Oak Flat Connector and the upper Deadman back to Southern Crossing and back to Mars Court.

It was a beautiful day for a ride and I have been enjoying getting out more than I normally do, and seeing different parts of the forest than I normally would. I feel guilty that I haven't done any of this recent mountain biking with Sofie Dog, but the distances have been too great and the temperatures too hot. To make up for it we have been going on more hikes.
