I started work early today, so I was able to get home with plenty of daylight left, to go for a road ride. The road bike feels as light as a feather, after a few rides on the mountain bike. I climbed up to the picnic grounds. I don't feel comfortable doing it in the dark, or dusk, because I feel like every car can't see me, and there's no shoulder to provide extra distance between myself and the automotive beasts.

Training has officially started, so I decided to time myself, to create a baseline. I made it up in 22 minutes, and it was a struggle. I wasn't really happy with my performance, so I went down and did it again, this time in 23 minutes. Not bad, to only lose a minute. I felt better, so I decided to continue pushing myself. I went a short ways up the road to La Cueva where there is a flat spot, and pedaled out a total of 6 intervals, each lasting 15 seconds. Intervals are the most wicked form of torture, so I wanted to keep them short, for the first time out. After the last one, I rode up to the parking area, and then back to home.

It was a nice afternoon. Sunny, with temps around 60. I rode with leg warmers on, but I might have been able to just wear shorts, if it weren't for the 5 minutes of downhill I have to deal with, after the climb. That puts a real chill on a sweaty body, at 40 miles per hour.
