I headed out early, a little bit before 8:00am. Temps were already in the 40s, and it was looking like it was going to be a great day. I made it to my break spot, in an hour and a half, which is just average time. I had a power bar, and then headed up the mountain. I felt like I was climbing strongly, when a group of three guys went zooming by me, and then two more passed me, a while later. It points out how much room for improvement I have. They didn't go to the top, instead, I think that they turned around just above the ski area, where the road heads down to Placitas.

As I climbed higher and higher, the temperature fell lower and lower. By the time I reached the top, it was 34 degrees. That's why those guys turned around halfway up. Every once in a while, I would head into a curve, and a wall of wind would blast me. Luckily, it was usually short-lived torture, so it didn't slow me down too much. I exerted a lot of energy getting up there, and I took a long break, to get warm again. I put on all of the clothes I had, and headed down the mountain. By the time I reached the bottom, it was 30 degrees warmer, and I stopped and took off most of the clothes.

I made the turn onto highway 14, and the wind came back to stay. It was in my face all the way to Tijeras, and then all the way into Albuquerque. I didn't head home right away, because we had a baseball practice at Los Altos field. I threw the ball around, and took a few swings, but mostly I was useless. I left early, and headed for home. Clouds moved in, and it got cold and windy for the rest of the ride. I was glad to get this ride behind me.
