N.D. drove us around to the other side of the mountain, and we parked halfway to the top, at the ski area, and met Charlie and Chris. I didn't understand the logic of driving up the mountain, instead of riding, but they said it had something to do with the elevation, and blood doping, and I don't know what else, but I went along with the plan. The bad part of it was the fact that it was already cold, at the starting point.
We climbed up to the top, and then headed down to do it again. I was cold, and I knew that if I descended to the bottom, I could be in warm temperatures, in fifteen minutes, so I made that my plan. Why would I ride where it was cold, when I could ride where it is warm? The other three guys climbed back up from the mid-point, and I did the full climb. When I reached the car, Charlie and Chris were packing up and heading for home, so I continued to the top, and N.D. did as well.
On the way up, a strong rider named Devon caught up with me, and we chatted for a while. He's going to be in Durango racing the train on Memorial weekend, at the Iron Horse Classic, as well. I don't think that I will be able to beat the train, so my goal is to keep from getting swept off of the course. That gives me five hours to finish the race. Hopefully, I can accomplish that.
N.D. and I rode down to the car, and headed for home. This was my third weekend in a row, climbing to the top of the crest, and the second in a row, doing one and a half climbs. Our goal is to climb it twice, to get ready for the race. We are almost there!
