I spent another day painting, and the place is really starting to look good. It's been a lot of work, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I cleaned up and then took the mountain bike out for a ride.
I rode over to Oak Flat, to check out the campground, and the place was closed and gated. It was weird having such perfect weather for camping, and not a soul around. The trailhead had yellow tape across it, but there were no signs, so I ducked under and began to explore. I ran into a couple of dead ends, and then popped out on Anaya Road, right near Sanctuary, a defunct religious compound, that we had looked at before finding the place we bought. A short distance up the road was a trail leading into the Albuquerque Open Space. I don't know what it's doing up here, because Albuquerque is 20 miles away. I followed a small trail for a long ways, losing it a couple of times, and then picking it back up, until it led me to some double tracks, and wider trails. I cruised around for a while, and then came out onto Oak Flat, not very far from where I had started.
The trails were varied in their condition, and terrain. Some twisted through the trees, some rolled through meadows, and others were forested or rocky. It was a blast. Trails went off in all directions, and I've got lots of them to explore. I'm certain that I'll be able to ride all the way to Cedro Peak.
It was a warm day, with temps in the 80s, and a little bit overcast, but no chance of rain. Someone needs to do a rain dance. Maybe I'll wash my car.
