I went down to Roswell NM, land of the space aliens, for a softball tournament, and I took my road bike along for a ride. We played at 1:00am and 5:00am, Saturday morning, and then again at 1:00am Sunday morning, so I had all day on Saturday, to take the bike out. I forgot my speedometer, so I estimated the ride at between 40, and 45 miles.

I rode from the Day's Inn Motel, north on Main Street, and then out to thr Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge. I'd be bitter too, if I was a lake, and I didn't have any water. The only water out there was in a couple of puddles, in what was a pretty good sized basin. There was a gated old road, that led through the Refuge, and then out the other side. I rode a few more miles, and passed Old Clovis Highway, and then turned around and headed back. There were lots of lizards in the Refuge, but not much else. I laid down on a picnic table in the shade for a while, before continueing on.

Instead of going all the way back to Main Street, I turned on Railroad Lane, which followed the train tracks, more or less, back towards town. I passed the Roswell Country Club, and some pecan orchards, and headed in toward downtown. I stopped on 2nd street and had a cherry snow cone, which was a nice treat as the temperatures had soared into the low 100s. I continued into downtown, and came across the rest of the softball team, just as they were about to go in to the Alien Museum. I continued heading south through town, and went all the way down to the Relief Route, before turning around and heading back to the motel.

I got a pretty good look at Roswell, from one end to the other. It's not a bad little town, but I don't think that I would want to live there. No mountains.

It was a scorching hot day, with temps from the 80s, to the 100s.
