I wanted to go for a mountain bike ride, but it changed to a road ride, when I remembered about the knobs torn off of my bike tire, and my being too lazy to change it. I need to do a couple of hours of maintenance on the mountain bike, and I didn't want to get started.
I rode down the mountain, and then headed east on old 66. I went over Sedillo Hill, through Edgewood and Moriarity, until the road joined up with Interstate 40, at the east end of Moriarity. I wanted to go farther, but not enough to dare to get on the freeway.
I rode back the way I had come, and I even detoured up to Canyon Estates to see where the trailhead is, going up to the Sandia Crest. Bikes aren't allowed, but I'm thinking about hiking it. I then went over to the Forest Service Station, and filled up on water, and took a power bar break. The climb back up to the house was a struggle, and I didn't try to go too fast. In fact, I wasn't too fast on any part of this ride. I had the heart rate monitor on, and I felt like I was going to collapse, every time it went in to the 140s. I've got my work cut out for me.
It was another hot, sunny day, with temps in the 80s and 90s. I managed to get a pretty good sunburn on the tops of my knees. I was out in the hottest part of the day. One of these days, I need to get an early start, and go for a 100 miler.
