I took off on the mountain bike after work, without really having a plan as to where I was going to go. I took along my headlight, so I figured that it didn't very much matter if I was caught out, after dark.

I decided to ride on the east of the highway trails, so I headed over there, and rode down mahogany trail to Juan Tomas Rd., and then went up Bear Scat. I took every right turn that I came across, and only ran into one dead end at private property. Eventually, I exited the forest at Via Sedillo Rd., which took me back to old 66, at Sedillo Hill. It was almost dark, so I decided to ride on old 66 back to Tijeras, and then go back onto the forest trails, at Otero Canyon. Along the way I saw an interesting cloud formation, so I stopped to take a picture.

It was completely dark by the time I reached Otero Canyon, so I switched on my headlight, and began the climb back up the mountain. My light didn't seem to be properly aimed, so I had to stop a couple of times, and adjust it. Near the top of trail 236 a pair of eyes were illuminated in the darkness. It was some kind of a cat, but too small to be a cougar. It might have been a bobcat, or perhaps just a regular house cat.

I eventually made it up to Mars Court. A couple of kids were parked there, enjoying the quiet, when I came riding up the trail, and blasted them with my light. They were paralyzed like a couple of deer, and it was hard for them to move out of the way, as I came through the gap in the fence railing.

It was a very nice evening, with temps in the 70s and 60s, and a bright half a moon shining.
