I attempted to ride up to Sandia Crest, as I haven't done September yet, but I was not successful in my try. I left fairly late, around 11:00am, and I was not feeling well. I've had a bit of a cold for the last couple of days, but I thought that if I took it easy, I'd be able to make it. Wrong.

Things started out well. The day was beautiful, with amazing blue skies, and temps were comfortable around 70. I cruised down the highway to Tijeras, and then through Cedar Crest to the big climb. As I started the climb, I realized that I was becoming cold, so I stopped to put on my legwarmers, and eat a power bar. I continued up, but I was suffering from increasing cold and wind, and my own poor feeling self, so I stopped at the ski area for another break, and to put on my arm warmers. I laid down in the parking lot, and almost fell asleep. When I awoke from my dazed state, I had a decision to make. I could continue to try and climb up to the crest, which was another six or seven miles, or throw in the towel, and try again next week. I only had about a quarter of my water left, so I opted to call it quits, and live to ride another day. I've got a couple more weekends in September, to try and make it to the top. Maybe I'll try a night ride.

The ride back to the house was uneventful, and I didn't put much effort in to climbing back up the hill. I was just glad to have made it safely back to the house.
