I haven't felt much like riding this week, but I did use my trainer for spinning class in my kitchen, twice. The first time I had a 10 minute warm-up, then I went all out for 40 minutes, then a 10 minute cool-down. It was brutal. The next day I did another 10 minute warm-up, but then I did 20 sets of intervals, 1 minute on, and 1 minute off. That was also brutal. I'm trying to get myself ready for the race in Moab in 2 weeks, but the truth is, I'm doomed. I'll do the best I can, but I'm not ready, and I feel like the end is near...

Anyway, back to this ride. I wanted to practice riding in the dark, and I had good intentions of staying out for hours, but once I was out there, all I wanted to do was get back to the house. I rode around the upper part of the mountain, and never really exerted myself very much. It was quite dark, with just a sliver of a moon out.

Whenever I stop now, I scan the landscape with my headlight, to see if there are any eyes out there watching me. I saw a pair in David Canyon, and they were very spooky. They were staring at me for a long time, and finally I let out a Howard Dean yell, that shattered the stillness of the night, and the critter turned and went away. A little while later, I heard the distinct sound of a coyote, so maybe that's what I have been seeing.

It was a warm evening, with temps around 70, and a little bit breezy.
