I needed to mail some letters, and buy some stamps, so rather than drive my car down the mountain, and back, I decided to turn the trip into a bike ride. I dusted off the mountain bike, and took it down the highway, all the way to the bottom of the mountain, to the post office. The trip was eleven miles, one way. I got some of the new "forever" stamps, because the price is going up on Monday, and then I headed back up the hill.
I didn't want to climb all of the way back up on the highway, so I rode to Tunnel Canyon, and then took the trail system up to Mars Court, in my neighborhood. In Tunnel Canyon, my way was blocked by a guy and two dogs. One of the dogs was a big bull mastiff, and the other was a chow. He made me wait while he got the chow out of the way, but the mastiff was a big sissy. My bicycle scared him, and he almost started to cry. I continued on, and went up Otero Canyon, and climbed up to the plateau. My fitness level has really suffered from not enough riding, and I had to walk most of the steep section. From there it was a nice cruise back to the house.
It was a nice day, mostly sunny, with temps in the 50s and 60s. I'm glad I made it back to the house when I did, because about thirty minutes after I got here, the skies opened up with a five minute rainstorm, that would have soaked me. Sometimes I get lucky.
