I headed out to do the climbs to the Juan Tabo and La Cueva Picnic Grounds, and also up to the Tram. I did the Juan Tabo climb first, and struggled to keep up any kind of speed at all. My time was 26 minutes which is pitifully slow, but it does leave me a lot of room for improvement.

On the was down I have to pass through the one lane entrance to the picnic area, which has stone walls on each side. As I neared the opening, I saw a Fed Ex truck on the way up. I was going too fast to be able to stop, and if he makes the right turn into the one lane opening, he's going to squish me like a bug. I grabbed the brakes as hard as I could, and went as far to the right as I could, hitting the wall in the process. I scraped some skin off of my right hand, scraped my right shoulder, tearing my jacket in the process. As it turned out, the driver of the truck didn't make the right turn that I had expected, but instead went straight into the dirt parking area. I couldn't have known that, and I was glad that I only scraped the wall, and didn't hit it head on.

I was a little bit shaken up by the close call, but I managed to complete the other two climbs, and then headed back to the house.

It was a chilly gray day, with temps in the 30s.
